Our History

In late 1984 Pastor James Thomas returned to his hometown of Arlington, Texas to start Dayspring Church.  Dayspring Church started first as a Bible Study in a Holiday Inn located in Arlington. The location was moved twice before purchasing the property at 507 W Road to Six Flags, where the church now stands and God is still moving in the lives of the people.

A deacon of the church, Eldon Baker, inquired about the 20,000 square-foot facility, which had previously been a skating rink. Arrangements were made and the property and building was purchased and Dayspring Church moved to its permanent facility in 1985.

Dayspring grew rapidly the first three years, to approximately two hundred and fifty in membership. Each Sunday morning Pastor Thomas had special prayer for the local churches in Arlington praying that God would continue to bless, strengthen, and work through those ministries. This legacy and tradition of prayer continues to this day, every Sunday morning.

The three main focal points of Pastor Thomas’s ministry was first to minister the Word, second to minister to the Lord in worship and praise, and third to minister to people by touching their lives.

He firmly believed the pastor was to be a servant to the people! The church motto became “Enter to Worship, Depart to Touch People” which is still the focus of the servant minded and loving people of Dayspring.

On February 10, 1992 Pastor James P. Thomas Jr. went to be with the Lord. However, his legacy remains in the heart of Dayspring Church and the peoples it continues to reach!
